Second iPod down

Switched on my iPod yesterday, it turned on, scanned a few tracks and froze. Now it’s not responding to anything. After running down the battery and recharging it seems to be working, but then freezes mid-track again. I’m in China now, I haven’t found an Apple Centre, the Apple website has nothing to offer and their Chinese site is only available in Chinese.
Now seriously considering moving over to an iRiver…
That's it. What Next?

i’ve been watching quietly as every ipod around me collapses in a heap. they were never the most reliable pieces of equipment, but i think the latest generation aren’t too far short of being total crap.
irivers do look rather delicious, too.

They are beautiful, work very well and have truly revolutionised the way I listen to music. Unfortunately, the manufacturing seems to get worse with every model, which is to be expected I guess as they produce exponentially larger numbers of the little white boxes.
My last iPod died in similar circumstances, except that one had already lasted six months and decided to die in Tokyo, where there’s a great Apple Centre (they replaced it within days). This one’s died only a month or so later.
