Smog & Joanna Newsom in Sydney

Filed under: Australia, Music — matt @ 6:48 pm

Just got back to Sydney and Popfrenzy seem to be doing the right thing all round. I dropped around to their cosy little record retailing boudoir in Surry Hills, which they’ve confirmed will host to a Smog instore next week. Awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing Newsom too, people say that her music makes even more sense live. She has a voice that can be difficult to listen to, but it usually only takes me a couple of verses to get caught up in her words and sounds.

Plus there’s a music trivia night called Dangerous Minds happening at the club (Chequers @ the Mandarin) on Friday. Damn, music and trivia. Who else is in?

  4. i didn’t get tickets for Smog & Joanna Newsom, I tried to work my charms on the lovely guys at Inertia. Unfortunately they resisted. The instore was cool though, we picked up a beer and piled into the tiny store along with another 100 or so indie kids and when ‘Blood Red Bird’ started off the set everyone looked at each other with big smiles and the rest was a rush of memories and lovely songs.

Otherwise it’s been a rush of new music since I got back – I’ve done interviews with Jackson and Blockhead since getting back and I’m interviewing Cage tomorrow, and Breakestra and Broadcast next week. Eek, what to ask!
