Endangered species

July 1st, 2008

This will soon be a thing of the past.

I lose my records room soon - a luxury I built up to with a lot of dreaming - and in the process of preparing for that seismic shift, I’ve been culling CDs (and the odd record). Where do you go to sell CDs these days? Does anyone pay?

    Awww, sad :(

Stephen @Glebe Markets is probably the best to sell things to. But yeah, it’s hard these days. The alternative is to stick it up on eBay, but it’s more work for you…

Ach, I know how you feel! I’m trying to cull CDs too, though the records are largely being handed over into the safe-keeping of a friend who will at least play and appreciate them. Still, to have to leave them behind is hard!

Was planning a garage sale, myself. Ebay is far too much work.

p.s. Any tips on where to source vinyl storage solutions in Sydney, for instance, those stackable cube things? I need something to put the records in once my furniture goes.

Surely you could just change the baby next to the turntables ;-) All you need to do is cull the records on top of the cubes.

I’m slowly getting rid of my records + CDs and am happier giving them away to friends than dealing with the hassle of trying to sell them.

It’s not really that sad. There might be a few gems just waiting to be rediscovered, but there’s nothing I’d be keen to push onto friends. I usually just take cast-offs to FBI, but there are too many this time.

Emmy, couple of options: Ikea have these boxes (the one on the floor in the pic, though I think they may be taller now - possibly stackable) and these shelves; the ones in the pic with wheels are from Aero; and you can also get plastic ‘milk crate’ style boxes from most of those home storage type places.

Re: Record home storage. We have cubes from Howard’s Storage World that you assemble yourself.
    2. Selling - if you have any “old-skool” rave dance stuff there is the the Sydney Old School Beat Meet ( Record Fair) on August 16 in Glebe. I’ll be there trying to flog some old vinyl.
