Redundant stacks

I’m blown away by this.

I walked home today and passed a guy delivering huge stacks of white and yellow pages directories to apartment buildings all the way along my street. It increasingly seems like a huge waste of paper and distribution – I’m sure there are demographic groups who still find use for these tomes, but every year they seem more and more redundant.

It’s disgustingly wasteful and should have stopped years ago.
You can opt-out though: http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/info/cancel-directory-delivery

Brilliant, Matt, I just opted out. But does it actually work? I posted this on Twitter, and got a few replies saying it doesn’t.
When it comes down to it, does Telstra just line up a string of contractors to deliver the piles of directories – i.e. people who don’t care about addresses or numbers, just piles of Yellow Pages outside a ground floor apartment?
